Hello everyone,

Welcome back!

Hope you enjoyed reading the previous blog.

Being an Odia, Durga Puja is one of the biggest festivals for me. I long for the arrival of MAA the whole year. And finally when that time of the year has come, sadly I am not able to go to my city due to work commitments. So, I have decided to celebrate my pujo here in Delhi and for that pampering, myself comes first.

I tried out some home-made recipes and honestly out of so many recipes some worked ok ok, few did wonders and a lot of them absolutely didn’t do anything for me. So, I decided to share the best out of the lot for you in the hope that they will also do wonders for you like they did for me.

My Skin type: sensitive and dry but these recipes are for all skin types.

GET SET TO GLOW NATURALLY THIS FESTIVE SEASON

This festive season start stealing some time from your busy schedule and invest some to pamper yourself. Look your best with natural home remedies and let the glow do the talking. Here are some of the handpicked home remedies that are hassle-free and pocket-friendly so, let the pampering game begin with these DIYs:

Pamper your hair with some avocado hair mask:

This DIY hair recipe will need ripe avocado, an egg, half a cup of olive oil, and a tablespoon of honey. Mash avocado then mix the egg yolk and other ingredients into a bowl. Comb your hair, take sections of your hair and massage it onto the scalp and length of the hair. Leave it for about an hour or so and rinse it with cold water. This hair mask will add nourishment and shine to your dull and damaged hair. Use this mask once a week for best results.

Exfoliate your body with coffee and sugar:

Exfoliation is very important to remove dead skin and cellulite from your body and what’s better than to do it at home? Take one small cup of brown sugar and add a half cup of coffee (it helps in removing cellulite), add a drop of lavender or any essential oil and one or two tablespoon of honey. Mix them well and start scrubbing. Massage the scrub into the skin properly and wash off using a shower gel or soap. Repeat the process twice a week for a smooth and supple skin.

Claim your body with turmeric:

Turmeric has endless benefits for the body as well as skin, and using turmeric as the main ingredient we can have an easy and effective mask. Add a small cup of organic turmeric to 1/4th cup of sandalwood powder and gram flour powder Take cold yogurt or milk and start making a thick paste. Apply the paste on the body and wait till it completely dries. Wash off the paste to unveil glowing and smooth skin.

Double cleanse your face with extra virgin coconut oil:

Take lukewarm coconut oil onto a cotton pad and start removing all the make-up and dirt from the skin. This is a great cleanser as it breaks down the make-up without stripping away the moisture. Take some oil onto your palm and massage it in circular and upward motions to improve blood circulation.

Deep cleanse your face with tomatoes and cucumber:

After the oil cleaner, it’s time for the deep cleansing of pores and for that we will need half tomato, half cucumber and then make a paste of the two. Apply the paste and slowly massage it to break any remaining dirt or makeup. Splash your face with water and pat dry it. This will ensure the addition of antioxidants and will help to remove unevenness from the skin.

An exfoliator is the key to the baby soft skin:

After cleansing, exfoliating is a must. Take some lemon juice, honey and oatmeal and gently massage it to the skin. Lemon is great to brighten up the face and honey helps in nourishment. Oatmeal brightens the skin and helps in removing dead skin cells.  Baking soda and water is also a great exfoliating agent as it helps in clean up acne. Don’t exfoliate more than twice a week.

Eyes need all the attention:

Baking soda and almond oil are great to just swipe away the dullness and darkness under the eyes followed by a fruit pack. A deep nourishing mask is the best for the dried under eyes, a banana and olive oil eye mask is something which you can put once a week to moisture your eyes. Keep your green tea bags after use in the fridge and put the cold bag on the eyes to add antioxidant and remove dullness.

Shine like a sun with a radiant face pack:

Aloe vera gel has nourishing and healing properties that help to rejuvenate the skin and give it a natural glow from within. Take a fresh aloe vera plant and extract the juice by peeling the skin then add a pinch of turmeric, some honey and milk to make it a paste. Apply it all over the face and neck and leave it for some time and gentle massage it and wash the face with cold water.

Fruit masks are great for that added benefit of nourishment; all you need is a small cup of yogurt and berries like blueberries, strawberries or cranberries or any fruit like kiwi and avocado or grapes and apple or mangoes etc. fruit packs gives a healthy glow to the face as it adds vitamins and minerals that goes deep into the pores to heal and rejuvenate the skin. You can add honey or lemon according to your concern issues. Mix the ingredients and apply on the face and neck for good 15-30 minutes and then rinse it with cold water.

Tonner locks the hydration:

Cucumber juice can be a great tonner as it has healing and cooling properties. Take a little bit of juice onto a cotton pad and gently dab on the face. Apple cider vinegar is a great toner, especially for oily skin. Mix half cup water into one cup apple cider vinegar and put it in a spray bottle to use as a mist toner. Green tea mists are all over the market, you can save some money by making your DIY mist at home. Brew some green tea and let it cool, put it in a spray bottle and take a quick little shower whenever your face feels dehydrated.

Don’t forget to moisturize and apply a good layer of sunscreen to your skin with organic products after following the above steps. Keep yourself hydrated and eat healthy to get the glowing skin faster.

About Cactus & Sunflower

"Cactus & Sunflower" is  Grishma Satpathy's new venture in the digital space. The name comes from her deep relation

with her grandmother and the impressions of cactus and sunflower in their lives. As a child she used to share all her curiosities

about the plants with her 'MAA'. Her grandmother believed that 'Grishma' and 'Sunflower' have so much in common;

both are associated with sun and is the ultimate source of light. She always said Grishma to always make sure to carry

that light within yourself wherever you go and whatever you do.
